Day 5

Vizzavona - Refuge di Prati

Tuesday 13th September 2011

We began with a gentle meander up through the forests around Vizzavona. The path levelled out and continued on a flat-ish contour around numerous subtle valleys between the hills. There was very little height change and a great many streams providing ample water supply.

Apart from some wild pigs in the woods before the final climb up to the Refuge di Prati, there is very little worth emphasising apart from the pleasurable respite from the unrelenting steepness of the northern half of the route! And that final climb was spectacular, with great views and a climatic arrival at the Col (insert name), 15 mins before the Prati hut.

Tom mid-way through the final ascent of the day. The Prati refuge is beyond the skyline to the right.

Steve admiring a dramatic scene, looking back down the same climb that is pictured above.

The Prati was one of our favourite refuges, being high up with lots of space to camp or bivvy. This would be a very good bivvy spot, in fact, with ample space on a plateau.
